DISCLAIMER
1. This event is not a criticism of the current youthwork undertaken by churches in Farnham.
2. This is not something for the leadership team to just 'do' or put on a CV. We really desire to see positive change and believe the youth of Farnham do too.
3. We want to be people's friends, if we are rocking the boat, we believe we are doing it for the right reasons and not to offend churches, families or the community.
4. This is not a one off event. We will endeavour to push through the change and continue to support the youth and leaders who attend. We want to help bring positive resolutions.
5. This is not about us, or you, or politics. This is about bringing the kingdom or our Lord Jesus Christ and performing his will.
6. We believe that with your help we can see the youth of Farnham, the churches of Farnham and the community really start to grow and flourish in a way we have all desired.

BEN
Laurence is 23 years old and is a graduate from the University of Chichester. He studied Contemporary Theatre and Devising (Performing Arts) and gained a 2:1. Laurence hopes to continue to do his Masters. Since graduating, Laurence has worked with Soul Edge Ministries (Soul Survivor) in Canada as a team leader and is now working with Orison Prayer Spaces. He is an avid sports fan (Rugby being his main passion) and is also teaching himself guitar in his spare time.
"Having spent my whole life in Farnham, I have seen many youth walk away from their faith. and I don't want to continue seeing that. We desire to see more events like Ignite town-wide and to give the youth of Farnham their church back so they can share it wherever they are; school, college , Uni or even at home. Its time to make the church open again."
“A simple layman armed with scripture is greater than the mightiest pope without it.”
Martin Luther King
Ben is 20 and currently studying Philosophy and Political Economy at Exeter University. Farnham has been his home town for as long as he can remember. Him and his family have been going to St James, Rowledge for around 16 years! He is an avid Newcastle United fan (for reasons beyond the rest of us) and love pretty much any sport that involves some sort of ball. Ben has also done a fair bit of running, the highlight being running the Paris marathon.
“I think God has given me a real heart for seeing the Church grow and reach people who have not yet heard the good news. The inspiration for this event came from being on the planning team for the Regeneration Summit, which gathered together 150 young people, 30 bishops, youth workers and the two archibishops to discuss and pray about how we could better reach young people. I came away really wanting to hold something like this but with a local twist and so here we are”
“Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.”
C S Lewis
Ruth is 18 and is studying Law, Chemistry and Biology at Farnham College. She has lived in Farnham all her life and is a member of Weybourne Baptist Church, where she leads worship. Ruth loves singing and music and she is currently learning guitar (though this is definitely work in progress!)
“My ‘God vision’ is to see Christians worshipping God together, and not letting denomination, status or ritual get in the way of true faith. I also love the idea that anyone who is anointed by God, (man, woman, child) should be able speak or preach the words that he has put on their heart.
It’s on my heart to make sure that everyone at least knows about Gods word and love for us especially the people who are indifferent to it because, if this is the case, they can’t know enough about him! I love the verse Romans 12 v 9 - 13.
I’m really inspired by, and excited for, ReIgnite and I hope that it brings together a closer community of young Christians and builds up relationships within the churches of Farnham.”
“Our failure to talk in this way is the reason why so few understand the need for faith, and the necessity of a work of grace in their soul in order to possess eternal life.”
Pilgrim’s Progress
The inspiration for holding this event has come about from the team attending the Regeneration Summit which brought together over 150 young people from across the country, along with over 30 Bishops and the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to discuss and pray about the Church and young people. We felt called to bring an event like the Summit back to Farnham but with a local twist and therefore we had the vision of ‘ReIgnite Farnham’.
You can find more out about the details of the event on our event page.
After the Event itself, our main aim is to see young people’s hearts moved to serving and growing as part of their Church as well as to have Church leaders and youth workers alike challenged to meet the needs of the youth of Farnham today. There will be more tangible effects from the day, which include the evangelistic event which we hope will arise from a 'Dragon’s Den' style activity. Our hope is that we will see more common ground arise between the church and the youth, and through this open the church in farnham to all who seek.
“What is it, Lord? What am I holding back? What am I using as an excuse for not serving You in whatever You want me to do.”
